The word gospel means "good news." It’s the story of Yeshua (Jesus) and all He has done for you. This story is the foundation for everything. But in order to really understand the good news, you must first hear the bad news.
The bad news...
Sin was brought into our world through Adam (Romans 5:12), and with sin came death, pain, suffering, and sorrow. Adam and Chavah (Eve) were told that when they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they would surely die. Since God is perfect and holy, He cannot dwell in the presence of sin. Therefore, the Bible says the wages of sin is death and eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:9).
It wasn’t just Adam and Eve who ate from the tree. We all have. Indeed, the Bible says that all have sinned (Romans 3:23). Every time we choose to transgress God’s holy and perfect Law—His Torah—we are sinning according to the Bible (Romans 3:20; 7:7; 1 John 3:4). In essence, we are eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil just like Adam and Eve did. And because of your sin, you will die and be separated from God for all eternity.
Now for the good news...
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish by have eternal life. (John 3:16)
God’s love for us is revealed through His Son, Yeshua the Messiah. Yeshua, God the Son, came to earth to die and save you from God’s judgment upon sinners. Through Yeshua’s sacrifice, you can be forgiven and have restored relationship with God.
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
Yeshua’s death satisfied the requirement of the Torah and set us free from the death we deserve for our sin!
In order to be saved and restored to God, you must first acknowledge that you have sinned against God and therefore you are condemned to eternal destruction away from His presence. There is no way for salvation outside of the death, burial, and resurrection of Yeshua. When you believe that in your heart, then you must trust in Yeshua and confess your sins to God in humility. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and cleanse you of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Put your faith in Yeshua’s work on the cross and you will be saved.
After you have accepted the Messiah, then you must commit to making Him Lord over your life and follow Him all the rest of your days. Study the Bible every day and learn more about what it means to live like a follower of Yeshua. Surround yourself with a community of believers that have the same passion to be more like Yeshua every day. Being part of a local community of believers is critical for spiritual growth, accountability, and the maturity of spiritual gifts within the body.
